Honoring Senator Jan Hochadel for Her Service to Working People

WHEREAS, Senator Jan Hochadel has dedicated her career to advancing the rights, dignity, and economic security of working people as an educator, labor leader, and public servant, and
WHEREAS, Senator Jan Hochadel dutifully serves as President of the American Federation of Teachers Connecticut, providing strong leadership to one of Connecticut’s largest and most diverse labor organizations, representing educators, paraeducators, school-related personnel, healthcare professionals, higher education faculty and staff, public employees, early childhood educators, and retirees, and has been a tireless champion for collective bargaining, public education, workers’ rights, and the economic security of all working people, and
WHEREAS, throughout her tenure as President of AFT Connecticut, Senator Hochadel has fought to strengthen public services, improve educational opportunities, protect quality healthcare, and ensure that working people have a voice both in their workplaces and in the halls of government, and
WHEREAS, in 2022, Senator Hochadel was elected to represent the 13th Senate District, bringing the perspective of a union member, educator, and labor leader to the Connecticut General Assembly, and
WHEREAS, during her service in the Connecticut State Senate, Senator Hochadel consistently stood in solidarity with working people and organized labor, championing policies that strengthened workers’ rights, protected collective bargaining, expanded economic opportunity, and improved the lives of working families across Connecticut, and
WHEREAS, Senator Hochadel earned the respect and admiration of union members, fellow legislators, advocates, and constituents through her integrity, dedication, and unwavering commitment to justice and fairness for all workers, and
WHEREAS, after years of distinguished service to the people of Connecticut and the labor movement, Senator Hochadel has announced her retirement from the Connecticut State Senate, concluding a chapter of exemplary public service while continuing her advocacy on behalf of working people as President of AFT Connecticut, and
WHEREAS, Senator Hochadel’s legacy will endure through the countless workers, students, families, and communities whose lives have been improved by her leadership and advocacy, so
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Connecticut AFL-CIO and its affiliated unions proudly recognize Senator Jan Hochadel for her extraordinary service to the labor movement and her steadfast commitment to Connecticut’s working families, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Connecticut AFL-CIO convention delegates express their sincere gratitude and deep appreciation for Senator Hochadel’s leadership as an educator, union leader, and State Senator, and for her many contributions to advancing the cause of organized labor and economic justice, and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the Connecticut AFL-CIO convention delegates extend their heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Senator Jan Hochadel upon her retirement from the Connecticut State Senate and honor her as a lifelong champion of working people and the labor movement.
